Why plant matters

Go to the interactive story “Why Plant Matters“.

Visual interactive detailing the essential role plants play in our lives.

This original pitched story was created along with the Reuters Graphics team, Simon Scarr, developed by Jitesh Chowdhury, and written by Gloria Dickie.

This was a big story to tackle… starting from initial reporting back in March..but I find sketching out my ideas with pencil always brings much clarity! And surprisingly. ..not much has changed!

For this project, I got to play with paint again! I hope with a human touch using watercolor, we can engage people more to see the unbreakable connection humans and plants have!

Here’s a glimpse from sketch to final, layering watercolor and crisper photoshop outlines.

The biggest challenge was to make the big L scroll from 🌳Treetop to the 🌊ocean feel like a cohesive scene. I used perspective lines to keep everything on the same scale.

The entire collaboration took over a year, but in the end, we worked together, sharing our love for plant conservation and each of our unique skill sets, to complete this dynamic visual story for Reuters Graphics. We were proud to share this important work during the UN Biodiversity Conference (COP15) in late 2022.
