The US Maternal Vulnerability Index

Go to the interactive dashboard “The US Maternal Vulnerability Index

The US Maternal Vulnerability Index is the first county-level, national-scale, open-source tool to identify where and why mothers in the United States are vulnerable to poor health outcomes. As the DataViz designer at Surgo Ventures, I designed and created all DataViz graphics for this interactive dashboard, and collaborated with the developer, Paolo Corti, to create the final webpage. Below shows the progression from data analysis and wireframe with the research team to UX flow design using Figma.

The graphics were also adapted for static versions included in the report: Getting Hyperlocal to Improve Outcomes & Achieve Racial Equity in Maternal Health: The US Maternal Vulnerability Index.

Explore the US Maternal Vulnerability Index to see how it examines a range of factors influencing adverse pregnancy outcomes — including structural and individual level factors — and identifies precisely where and why mothers are more vulnerable to maternal mortality.
