The industrial palace of the cell

Cover design proposal for Nature Biotechnology showing the metabolic pathways in a single cell using machinery symbology inspired by Fritz Kahn,(Man as Industrial Palace)  a German gynecologist, and infographic guru. The illustration accompanies research work and paper ” Single-cell metabolic profiling of human cytotoxic T cells” lead by Dr. Felix Hartmann.

Below shows the progression of the graphic from the original pitch by the client, to sketch, to finalizing the design and illustration. The final illustrations were rendered with adobe illustrator and photoshop.
