Silent Spring On The Farm

Data Visualization graphic showing how industrial farming is causing the plummeting of bird populations. For this project, I worked with experts from the National Museum of Natural History in France to report on their case study of how intensified agriculture is leading a ‘catastrophic’ decline in France’s bird populations. I did the reporting digital first and created the print graphic. I illustrated the birds using graphite and digital coloration. National Geographic Magazine September 2018.

Below shows the progression of the graphic and the various ways I explored to visualize the large dataset.
