by Shihan Zhu (Featured in Spring 2020 Issue of Enquiry Magazine p10-13.)
Daisy Chung is an award-winning science visual communicator and illustrator originally from Taiwan and New Zealand. She currently works as a Graphics Journalist at Reuters Graphics creating original graphics-first stories and infographic designs, with a focused interest on environmental and biological topics. Daisy was the lead illustrator and graphics reporter for The Fentanyl Express, a year-long investigation that won the 2025 Pulitzer Prize in Investigative Reporting.
In 2020, She and fellow Taiwanese visual journalist Julia Janicki co-founded the “Taiwan data stories”, a multimedia collaboration aimed at sharing overlooked aspects of Taiwanese culture with a global audience, often underrepresented in Western-dominated media.
Previously, Daisy was the Data Visual Designer at Surgo Ventures, where she created data-driven visual stories addressing global health and social issues. She is a former Creative Director at wikiHow and Graphics Editor at National Geographic Magazine, where she worked with a collaborative team to engage the public through powerful visual storytelling.
She holds a Graduate Certificate in Science Illustration from California State University, Monterey Bay, and a BA in Biological Sciences and Visual Arts from Rice University. Daisy is passionate about making science more accessible through engaging visuals, often working directly with experts to translate complex topics into compelling stories. Her work has appeared in Reuters, The washington Post, Scientific American, National Geographic, Cell Press, The Journal of Neuroscience, and various platforms.
Her graphics have earned international recognition from the the Pulitzer, the White House Correspondents’ Association award, the Overseas Press Club Award, the Deadline Club Awards, the Society for News Design, Malofiej, the Covering Climate Now Journalism Awards, and Information is Beautiful.
When not drawing, you can find Daisy hiking, climbing rocks, harness-training her cat, and finding different uses for sourdough starters. She is currently based in Sunnyvale, CA.
She loves collaboration, bouncing ideas, mentoring and connecting with fellow creative minds! Drop her a line to say hi!
